With hitters from big teams all hungry for the green and gold. Our elite riders Steele and Kell went in with the mindset of giving it a good crack and to play things as they came. With Carter putting down an amazing effort in the U23 TT coming in first with 36:50 followed by Conor Leahy in 2nd. But nothing could prepare us for what we were about to witness in the Elite men's. With Luke jumping in the deep end and doing the elite race. Lucas Plapp stomped across the line in 1st place with a time of 46:00:73 followed by Luke Durbridge behind by over 42 seconds. Our own Kell O'Brien came in with a time of 47:11 landing him 3rd place! Packed to the barrier's with enough watts to power the entire state, the race was full tilt right out of the gates. Early game, team rider @raphaelfreienstein found himself in a small break leading upto the first Ziptrak intermediate sprint and hit it out for 1st place. Soon after a second break formed which pushed the pace even higher with Porte pulling what seemed to be the longest turn in history. Reeling the break in with only 6 laps to go riders started scrambling for positions. Sam Welsford came across the line in first. What a fantastic way to kick off the National Road Series, especially after a long year of uncertainty. The pace was set with an early 9 man break in the first minutes of the race. The bunch played it safe knowing that the Hill would drag them Back. In the last kays of the race once it hit Willunga Hill, Richie Porte broke away as the riders strung out over the climb. The formidable Lucas Plapp after winning yesterday's stage bridged to Porte and made it look easy! Well done everyone! Huge day in the heat and the pace was fast. 🔥 . . .
