Track Academy Athletes mixing with InForm TM Insight MAKE
Four riders from Cycling Australia’s Podium Potential Track Academy headline the 2020 InForm TM Insight MAKE roster.
Luke Plapp, Conor Leahy, Godfrey Slattery, and Josh Duffy are all Track Academy athletes, they ride for InForm TM Insight MAKE when they are available.
The Podium Potential Track Academy launched in 2018 as a program that focuses on long term development of both endurance and sprint athletes, with the aim of building towards success at the 2024 Olympic Games and beyond.
Luke Plapp was recently selected for the postponed Tokyo Olympic Games at just 19 years of age. He joined the track academy two years ago and finds that the program helps him succeed.
“I really find the track academy gives me a really good base for stepping up into whether it be the older squad going to Tokyo or whether it be going from track to road, it’s a good base for anything,” Plapp said.
The track academy allows young upcoming athletes to train with older experienced athletes twice a week, which is a crucial part of the program.
“We get to train with the older blokes a couple of times a week and really get to be inspired by them,” Plapp said.
All four athletes are committed to the Track Academy, however, when available they link up with the InForm TM Insight MAKE squad throughout the National Road Series. This allows them to gain greater experience on the road in between their track commitments.
Plapp finds that track and road complement each other. “Pat is really flexible, he makes sure both programs mix and match. Pat also helps us develop on the road and get that good base and road endurance.”
