InForm TM Insight MAKE and Track Academy athlete Luke Plapp has been selected to compete in the endurance events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in July.

Plapp will make his Olympic debut at just 19 years of age, making him the youngest member of the Track Team.

“I was pretty speechless when I found out, to be honest, I even had a tear in my eye, it’s a dream come true. I’ve wanted to go to the Olympics since I was little and to be able to do it at 19 is pretty special,” Plapp said.

Plapp has an impressive CV. In 2018 he won the Time Trial at both the Oceania Junior Road Championships and National Junior Road Championships. In the same year, he came second in the UCI Road World Junior Championships. In 2019 he won the Australian Elite Individual and Team Pursuit at the Track Nationals. He is currently the Under-23 Australian National Time Trial Champion.

Plapp first set his sights on the Tokyo Olympic Games 2 years ago when he joined Cycling Australia’s Podium Potential Track Academy, which launched in 2018 as a program that focuses on long term development of both endurance and sprint athletes.

But it was only just recently that he really started to believe he could achieve his dream “I always thought it was believable but I really started to believe it 6 months ago” Plapp said.

Plapp can’t thank InForm TM Insight MAKE and DS Pat Lane enough for the support along the journey.

“2 years ago I told Pat about my dream to go to the Olympic Games. Throughout 2019 he just did what was best for me in terms of road racing and then at the start of this year I told him that’s my goal and that’s all I’ll be working towards and he was still keen to sign and support me fully” Plapp said.

With the COVID-19 pandemic causing chaos for the sporting industry, the Olympics Games are still expected to go ahead on the 24th of July and preparations are underway.
