Preview: Fed Uni Road Nats Kicks off Exciting 2020 Season
At the end of the NRS season, InForm TM Insight MAKE and the broader Australian cycling community casts its collective eye to one of the most anticipated events on the nation’s racing calendar: the Fed Uni Road Nationals.
Each January, Australia’s best under 19, under 23, and elite cyclists battle for the coveted green and gold national champions jerseys in the time trial, criterium, and road race, and after a solid NRS season, our boys are excited to get to work.
Kicking off today, the week will see our team racing in the time trial events first up, followed by Friday’s criteriums, and Saturday and Sunday’s road races.
In a team that’s going from strength to strength, new signings Blake Agnoletto, Josh Duffy, and Steele Von Hoff set the stage for an exciting year ahead for our team.
Young guns Duffy and Agnoletto join the InForm TM Insight MAKE as u19 riders, with Duffy selected for the Podium Potential track team, and Agnoletto increasingly becoming an impressive rider on the NRS circuit.
At the elite end, Von Hoff - commonwealth games champion and former world tour rider – will bring experience, skill, and leadership to the ever developing InForm outfit.
Last year’s Road Nationals saw the InForm TM Insight MAKE team pick up some memorable wins and podiums in the u19 road race (Pat and Sam Eddy’s incredible 1-2), u23 criterium (Drizners’ nail biting win), u23 time trial (Luke Plapp’s impressive second place), and u19 time trial (Pat Eddy’s second gold for the week).
Looking back on the success of 2019, the boys are all the more excited to tackle the 2020 edition.
Pat Eddy (u19):
“I am really keen to go out and defend the Australian title on the new TT course. There’s a few strong guys coming up from the u17 ranks, but I’m confident with my form and preparations going into the racing.”
Luke Plapp (u23):
“There is nothing better than Time Trial day at the Road Nats, and we as a team are so excited for the week ahead. The TT going to be an exciting course. Going through the university will add some more challenges and aspects to the TT. It’s a super stacked field this year, and I’m keen to hopefully try and go one better than last year!”
