An Amazing World Champs for Luke Plapp and Carter Turnbull

Following the U23 Men’s Time Trial World Championships on Monday evening. Both Luke Plapp and Carter Turnbull walked away with unbelievable results.

Luke Plapp

Luke Plapp commenced the race, achieving the fastest results ever recorded in the Men’s U23 TT. Plapp completed the 30.3km circuit with a speed of 52.443km/hr. This top speed bested any rider who has previously won the U23 Men’s Time Trial World Championships. The fast, flat course suited Plapp well, allowing him to achieve such a fast time.

Unfortunately, Plapp was dethroned from the hot seat. As the last rider Dane Johan Price-Pejtersen capped his speed by just 10 seconds. Johan was the only rider who could better his time over the flat, 30.3km course from Knokke-Heist to Bruges.

Although Plapp was aiming for the rainbow jersey, his notable effort still allowed him to walk away satisfied. In Plapp’s post ride interview he commented on how he was feeling.

"The ride Pejtersen did to win was pretty unbelievable," Plapp said. "When he told me the watts he did, that’s pretty insane. I don’t think anyone would’ve come close to that. - Luke Plapp

"I can’t fault my ride either, so I think upon reflection, I’ll be pretty stoked. There was nowhere I could have made up that time. I was really happy with the execution of my ride today. - Luke Plapp

To make Plapp’s efforts all the more outstanding, he had recovered from an elbow fracture last month during the Tour De L’Avenir.

Luke Plapp’s post-race interview

In addition to Luke Plapp’s achievement, InForm TMX MAKE rider Carter Turnbull, finished in 15th place. Just 1 minute and 15 second behind the winner; Price-Pejtersen.

Turnbull can also be commended on his fantastic ride. He felt as though his legs were not performing at his best and had attained better results in training. However, Turnbull still came away with a good placing and great future experience. The young rider gave it his all and came away with a significant time.

Turnbull spoke after his finish at the UCI World Championships stating,

“I gave it everything I had, so I can’t be disappointed.” It was very fast, with being flat, smooth roads and lots of cross tailwind sections. I have mixed feelings about my results as I did not feel amazing on race day, I felt as though I could have finished a bit higher. Although, at the same time I am happy with how I rode and I gave it everything on the day.” - Carter Turnbull

Turnbull finished with a quick  time of 35 minutes and 45 seconds.

“A lot of my training sessions were 35 Minutes, so I was pretty close in my race time. I am happy with how I rode it. Other than not having the best legs my race went extremely well, as I paced the effort almost as perfectly as all the technical aspects.” - Carter Turnbull
