Last month we published a feature of Pat Eddy, one of two Eddy brothers in the team. It’s now time for a Sam Eddy feature!

Before taking up cycling, Sam played Australian Rules Football and did some athletics but he started having problems with his knee.

“The physio recommended cycling and it went from there. Then my brother Pat picked it up, we started getting competitive and we started racing,” Sam said.

At the end of 2018, Sam and his brother signed with InForm TM Insight MAKE after talks with founder Cameron McKimm and directeur sportif Pat Lane.

“Cam and Pat had a barbecue with us in Bendigo and that’s where we talked about 2019. We talked about the Road Nationals coming up, that was our big goal,” Sam said.

Sam’s big goal became a reality when he finished second behind his brother Pat in the 2019 U19 National Road Race in Buninyong, it’s the biggest highlight of his cycling career to date.

“Going one-two with Pat, it’s pretty hard to beat that. There haven’t been many days that have come close to that, but hopefully, we can top it soon.”

Before the race, the Eddy brothers put a good plan in place, which boosted their confidence.

“We went into the race trying to control everything and there were a few hiccups such as my seat dropping a few times. But we had pretty much everything under control most of the day and had it our way,” Sam said.

After tasting success with his brother Pat, Sam has ambitions to tackle the Buninyong circuit and become an Australian National Champion in addition to racing overseas.

“I’d like to be racing overseas in five years and experience Europe, Asia, and even America.”
